Access was difficult having to barrow out and in up two sets of steps. The ground was good with no drainage problems. Grit sand was levelled and compacted on top of the excavated soil.

Because the site had difficult access—requiring materials to be carried up two sets of steps—we planned the work methodically. The existing turf was carefully removed, and the ground was assessed for level and drainage. Since the ground conditions were good with no waterlogging issues, we laid grit and sand to create a solid, compacted base layer.
Materials and Installation
A professional weed membrane was laid over the prepared ground to prevent unwanted growth beneath the artificial grass. We installed a robust sub-base that would provide lasting stability and comfort underfoot across both tiers of the garden. The artificial grass was then fitted carefully, with particular attention to joins and edge details to ensure a seamless, professional finish that complements the existing decking.
